LORETTA HACKMAN

Jewelry Artist and Instructor

Loretta Hackman is a jewelry artist and instructor based in Sugar Land, Texas (Houston area).  Her designs are influenced by gemstone lore, geometry, and generosity.  Look for themes of faith, hope, love, and protection in her one-of-a-kind and limited-edition jewelry.  Common materials used include fine silver, sterling silver, gemstones, art glass, pearls, and crystals.

Loretta’s lifelong fascination with and study of “the lore of the stones” creates the steering current for many of her designs.  She often creates pieces whose design reflects the meaning of the stone.  Turquoise for protection.  Lapis Lazuli for friendship and wisdom.  Pietersite for help during chaotic times.  There are so many wonderful options!

Loretta uses an iterative design process, a creative extension of her original career as an engineer.  Over time, the sketched design evolves into a blueprint as textures, colors, layers, and materials are evaluated and chosen.  This level of attention to detail carries through the entire design process and is reflected in the quality of the finished piece.

The time and thoughtful design incorporated into each piece of jewelry is a gift to the wearer.  Each piece becomes a “touchstone” or talisman, offering a sense of connection, strength, and endurance for generations to come.

Loretta’s training in engineering and decades-long devotion to art education create a strong foundation for the jewelry that she creates. This is jewelry that will travel with you to the barn, to the ball game, to the ballroom (and back!) for years to come.

Loretta Hackman has a decades-long long devotion to continuing art education… both hers and yours!  She is a Senior Certifying Art Clay Instructor with ten metal clay teaching certifications and has studied extensively with Master instructors in metal clay (a New Age moldable precious metal), metalsmithing, and art jewelry.  She encourages her students to stretch their goals, skill sets, and art legs at her art studio in Sugar Land, Texas (just southwest of Houston).

Loretta loves teaching one-on-on or in small groups and has a long career in teaching beading, wirework, and metal clay.  Her teaching goals get their jumpstart from you.  If you’re just starting out but have a specific goal in mind, we can work together to develop a plan for you.  If you’re a more advanced student and ready to learn a more advanced skill or take a certification class, Loretta is qualified to teach any of the Art Clay Certifications.

Loretta also teaches small-group project-driven classes that teach specific skills.  This is a great way to expend your skill set and meet new people… or work with friends!
